Chapter Profile

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Retail Design Institute!  We are a diverse group of designers, architects, graphic designers, suppliers, retailers, educators and students.  Our chapter encompasses Washington, Oregon and Idaho.  Just as we are surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, our chapter is surrounded by some well known retailers in the world.  Retailers such as Starbucks, Nordstrom, Costco, Eddie Bauer, Amazon, Microsoft, Nintendo, Tommy Bahama, REI, Columbia Sportswear and Nike are just a few of our friends and neighbors.  The goal of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Retail Design Institute is to advance innovation and collaboration in the creation of selling environments.  We achieve that goal through our chapter meetings, presentations, networking events and retail walking tours.  We also achieve that goal due to the energy and enthusiasm of our incredible members!  We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming RDI event in the Pacific Northwest!

President's Message

Dear Chapter Members and Colleagues:

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Retail Design Institute.

As the new executive board transitions into its term, we’ll be discussing how to best serve our current and future members.  Starting with crafting events around your needs, we will survey our membership, identify what events interest you and set the results into motion. From there, we’ll create an Events Committee to execute plans and ensure your membership is meeting your needs professionally and, of course, socially. We’ll also form a Sponsorship Committee to help fund the gatherings and weave local businesses into our programming.

To keep our membership growing, we will heighten awareness of The Institute and expand our membership base to include professionals from other disciplines, including visual merchandisers, brand managers, industrial designers, real estate developers and technology experts. We’ll also expand our chapter into the Portland market and offer three-to-four events a year.

I’d like thank the out-going board and committee members for their commitment to our chapter.  Their dedication has given us the momentum it needs for continued success.  Finally, I’d like to thank our chapter members for your continued support.  We are here to serve you and welcome your involvement to keep our chapter evolving.  I look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Best regards,

Maria Smith, RDI                                                                                        President
